Common questions.
Everything you might want to know about our tools, our studio, and how we handle your data.
General
What is MODVC?
MODVC is a tiny indie studio crafting calm and private web tools. We believe software should feel alive, handmade, and respectful of the person using it.
Are your tools really free?
Yes. Most of our tools are completely free to use. We sustain our work through community support and careful resource management.
How do you handle privacy?
Privacy is at the core of everything we build. Our tools use a combination of local processing and automated server-side deletion. For example, in MODVC Convert, all files are permanently deleted within 3 minutes of processing.
Mod Player (Music)
Is Mod Player really free?
Yes, completely free with no subscriptions and no hidden costs. We believe music should be accessible to everyone.
Does it work offline?
Yes, Mod Player is a 100% offline Android app. No internet connection is required, and your music stays on your device.
Does it collect my data?
No. Mod Player does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. There's no analytics, no tracking, and no data collection of any kind.
Convert
Is my data safe with Convert?
Absolutely. MODVC Convert utilizes a transient storage model where every uploaded and converted file is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers within 3 minutes of processing. For specific tools like the Background Remover, processing happens entirely on your local device.
What file types can I convert?
We support dozens of formats, including video (MP4, MKV), audio (MP3, WAV), images (PNG, WEBP, HEIC), and documents (PDF).
Panel
Is the bot hosting really 24/7?
Yes. Our free tier provides 24/7 uptime with no sleep timeouts, making it perfect for Discord and Minecraft bots.
Do I need a credit card for the Panel?
No. You can sign up and start hosting your projects without ever entering billing information.
Doodle Type (Type)
How is WPM calculated?
We use the standard formula: (characters / 5) / time in minutes. Accuracy is calculated based on correctly typed characters vs. total attempts.
Do you store my scores?
No. All session data and scores are stored temporarily in your browser's session storage. We do not transmit your typing data to any servers.
ModVoice (Voice)
What is ModVoice?
ModVoice is a high-fidelity, peer-to-peer WebRTC voice chat system running entirely at the edge. It allows communities to communicate privately and instantly, bypassing bloated centralized servers.
How does the Server Branding Playground work?
We believe customization should be open and free. The Server Branding Playground lets you design custom vanity URLs, select bespoke gradients, and preview themes in real time. Your color configurations are persisted across subdomains using highly secure browser cookies and localStorage, keeping your customized experience intact.
Is the voice chat secure?
Extremely. All sensitive connection details, access tokens, and server credentials are redacted from standard browser logs and restricted. Media signaling is handled privately, protecting you and your users from malicious scripts or XSS attacks.
Trust, Safety & Moderation
How does the profile reporting system work?
Our profile reporting system is designed to prevent abuse while ensuring community safety. When a profile is reported, it is not immediately banned. Instead, the report is securely routed to the admin panel for manual review. This prevents bad actors from weaponizing the report system using alt accounts.
What is Report Weight Building?
Every user account builds a 'Trust Weight' over time. Accounts that are older, have verified emails, and maintain good standing carry more weight when they file a report. Conversely, brand new accounts or accounts with a history of false reports have very little weight.
How do you handle negative false reports?
We have strict anti-abuse mechanisms. If our system detects that an account is repeatedly spamming false reports against innocent users, that account receives a false-flag strike. After 3 false-flag strikes, the account is restricted from submitting further reports.
Are false reporters banned?
To prevent retaliation and keep the ecosystem calm, we often use 'shadow-restrictions'. A user who abuses the report system will still see the report UI, but their reports will be silently ignored by the backend, ensuring they can't cause harm.
How are Store Products reported?
Users can report individual products in a server's store. Unlike profile reports, store products have a robust threshold system. If a product receives 3 to 4 legitimate reports from trusted users, the system will automatically notify the admins and temporarily delist the product pending review.
Do product reports use shadow-banning?
No, shadow-banning is only used for malicious reporters. Store product reports require transparency, so if a product is flagged and removed, the seller is explicitly notified about the policy violation so they can rectify it.
How does AI moderation factor into bans?
For extreme violations (like severe hate speech or illegal content in public text channels), our integrated AI models can automatically assess the context and issue an instant ban without waiting for admin review. This keeps the platform safe in real-time.
What is 'Account Standing Decay'?
We believe in second chances. If your account receives a moderation strike, it will slowly 'decay' over a 30-day period of good behavior. Once the decay period ends, your account standing is fully restored.
How are Server Bans handled?
Global moderators can ban entire servers for violating Terms of Service. When a server is banned, all active voice connections are terminated, and anyone attempting to join via an invite URL will see a 'This server has been banned for violating policies' message.
Can a banned server be unbanned?
Yes. Administrators have a dedicated 'Unban Server' workflow in the ModVoice Admin Panel. If a server successfully appeals their ban, an admin can instantly restore all server data, channels, and member access.
Why don't profile reports trigger instant bans?
If profile reports triggered instant bans, a malicious user could create 10 alternate accounts and instantly ban anyone they dislike. By sending profile reports to the admin review queue, we completely neutralize this vector of attack.
Who can see my reports?
Reports are strictly confidential. Only Global Administrators (for platform-wide issues) or Server Owners (for server-specific issues) can see the contents of a report. The person you reported will never know it was you.
What happens if I'm falsely reported?
Nothing. Because we use a Trust Weight system and manual review for complex cases, a false report filed against you by a troll will simply be dismissed by moderators, and the troll's Trust Weight will be penalized.
How do you track false reporters across alternate accounts?
We utilize advanced device fingerprinting, IP reputation scoring, and account heuristics to link alternate accounts. If a user is shadowbanned for false reporting, their alternate accounts will inherit the same restrictions.
What is the threshold for an automated action?
Thresholds are dynamic and based on the Trust Weight of the reporters. Five reports from brand new accounts might equal zero weight, while two reports from heavily trusted, multi-year users might immediately trigger automated quarantine protocols.
Can I appeal an AI-issued ban?
Yes. While our AI models are highly accurate at detecting severe violations, users always have the right to appeal. A human administrator will review the context logs and can reverse the AI's decision if a mistake was made.
Does the system notify me when my report is acted upon?
Yes. To build trust in our moderation systems, you will receive a system message thanking you for keeping ModVoice safe if an action is taken based on your report.
How do server owners handle local moderation?
Server owners and users with the 'KICK_MEMBERS' or 'BAN_MEMBERS' permissions can moderate their own communities. They can right-click any user in their server to access a dedicated moderation context menu.
What is the difference between a Kick and a Timeout?
A kick removes the user from the server, but they can rejoin if they have a valid invite. A timeout temporarily restricts the user from sending messages or joining voice channels, but they remain in the server.
How are ModVoice's policies different from centralized platforms?
We prioritize context and human review over blind automation. While we use AI to stop immediate harm, we don't rely on black-box algorithms to ban users without recourse. We also heavily penalize those who abuse the moderation systems, creating a calmer environment.
